Mebendazole is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic drug used to treat parasitic worm infections in humans, such as pinworms, roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms. Like fenbendazole, it belongs to the benzimidazole class and works by inhibiting the parasites' ability to absorb glucose, leading to their death. It is commonly prescribed for conditions like enterobiasis (pinworm infection) and is available in oral forms, such as tablets or suspensions.
Mebendazole is approved for human use in many countries and is on the World Health Organization’s List of Essential Medicines. It is generally well-tolerated, though side effects can include nausea, abdominal pain, or, rarely, liver issues. It is not typically used in pregnant women or children under two without medical supervision.
Similar to fenbendazole, mebendazole has been discussed in alternative health circles for potential off-label uses, such as anti-cancer effects.
One of the main differences between Fenbendazole and Mebendazole is that Mebendazole is able to cross the blood brain barrier whereas Fenbendazole can not. So if you want to treat the brain region use Mebendazole.
